Ab Initio Quantum Chemical Studies of 15N and 13C NMR Shielding Tensors in Serine and Complexes of Serine- nH2O: Investigation on Strength of the CαH…O Hydrogen bonding in the Amino Acid Residue.

In this paper, the hydrogen bonding (HB) effects on the NMR chemical shifts of selected atoms in serineand serine-nH2O complexes (from one to ten water molecules) have been investigated with quantummechanical calculations of the 15N and 13C tensors. Interaction with water molecules causes importantchanges in geometry and electronic structure of serine. For the compound studied, the most importan...

Probing hydrogen bonds in the antibody-bound HIV-1 gp120 V3 loop by solid state NMR REDOR measurements.

We describe solid state NMR measurements on frozen solutions of the complex of the 24-residue HIV-1 gp120 V3 loop peptide RP135 with the Fab fragment of the anti-gp120 antibody 0.5beta, using rotational echo double resonance (REDOR). In order to probe possible hydrogen bonding between arginine side chains and glycine backbone carbonyls in the region of the conserved Gly-Pro-Gly-Arg (GPGR) motif...

Hydrogen-Bonding Interactions in T-2 Toxin Studied Using Solution and Solid-State NMR

The structure of T-2 toxin in the solid-state is limited to X-ray crystallographic studies, which lack sufficient resolution to provide direct evidence for hydrogen-bonding interactions. Furthermore, its solution-structure, despite extensive Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) studies, has provided little insight into its hydrogen-bonding behavior, thus far. Hydrogen-bonding interactions are often...

Chemical shifts and three-dimensional protein structures.

During the past three years it has become possible to compute ab initio the 13C, 15N and 19F NMR chemical shifts of many sites in native proteins. Chemical shifts are beginning to become a useful supplement to more established methods of solution structure determination, and may find utility in solid-state analysis as well. From 13C NMR, information on phi, psi and chi torsions can be obtained,...

Ion-binding study by 17O solid-state NMR spectroscopy in the model peptide Gly-Gly-Gly at 19.6 T.

Li(+) and Ca(2+) binding to the carbonyl oxygen sites of a model peptide system has been studied by (17)O solid-state NMR spectroscopy. (17)O chemical shift (CS) and quadrupole coupling (QC) tensors are determined in four Gly-(Gly-(17)O)-Gly polymorphs by a combination of stationary and fast magic-angle spinning (MAS) methods at high magnetic field, 19.6 T. In the crystal lattice, the carbonyl ...
